CASD Parents & Students:
You may have heard that USDA has recently issued new nutrition standards for school lunches. We're proud that the CASD school meals already included lots of whole grains, vegetables and fruits as required by the new rules.
You'll notice some changes to the menus as we continue to meet these new standards, but students can still find their favorite lunches and parents can feel even better about their child getting a healthful meal at school. We always have, and hope that you will, encourage students to try new and healthy menu items.
All school lunches include five components: vegetable, fruit, meat/meat alternate, bread, and milk.
Students may choose an entree that includes the meat/meat alternate and bread components. To complete their meal, they may take one serving of fruit, one serving of vegetables, and a serving of low-fat or fat free milk. Students may decline up to two of the food components but of the three components selected, one must be a fruit or vegetable.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will be asked to select additional food items if at least three of the five components are not selected, or if they do not choose a fruit or vegetable.
