LIBRARY DIRECTOR RECEIVES AWARD |
Paula Marshall, Director of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library in Clearfield, is one of a select few Pennsylvania librarians chosen to receive the Laura Bush Foundation 21st Century Librarians Grant. This grant was designed to provide Pennsyvlania public libraries with 25 new Master of Library Science graduates who will work in rural or low-income urban libraries. Through the grant, Ms. Marshall will be given even more opportunities for learning up-to-date strategies in management, technology and problem-solving specific to rural libraries. Lisa Rives-Collens, central Pennsylvania District Librarian, said, "This is a phenomenal opportunity for Paula, but an even better opportunity for the people who use the Clearfield public library. Paula will be able to network with other Laura Bush Grant recipients all over Pennsylvania to improve the services of Clearfield's Shaw Public Library, as well as share her successes with other libraries." Ms. Marshall is expected to complete her MLS degree during the fall 2010. At that time, she will report to the Office of Commonwealth Library on the impact her education had on the community library service in Clearfield and the central Pennsylvania district. She was one of only 25 librarians throughout the entire Commonwealth chosen to receive this honor. Way to go, Paula! Congratulations!
