Counseling and Guidance services
are available to all students in the Guidance suite next to the main office of the Clearfield Area High School and in the Career Center. The counselors are willing to work with students on educational and career planning as well as any personal or social problems they may encounter during their high school years. Decision-making skills, rational thinking, along with developmental and remedial help, are stressed in counseling sessions.
Guidance personnel
maintain a permanent record folder for each student. This folder deals with the routine identification of the student, achievement(s) in school, and his/her aptitudes, interests, and abilities as shown through standardized measurements. The records are maintained to help the student and are protected for privacy. Only school personnel, such as counselors and administrators who are involved with the education of the student, can use the records without the consent of the student and parents.
We hope
that students will use the services of our Guidance Department to the fullest, and that the services will not only make their high school years and future years more productive, but also that these services will make their school years more relaxed and enjoyable.

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK: February 6-10, 2012 |

CASD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Otto, D.Ed., recently signed a proclamation
for
National School Counseling Week 2012, "School Counselors: Helping Students Be Brilliant".
National School Counseling Week
is held nationwide each year to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

parents of high school seniors and juniors cited the following sources that they considered credible in making educational decisions for their child's post-secondary education:
While we all know that information on the college process is widely available on the Internet and advice is often freely given to them from family and friends, for some families trying to help their student(s) figure out what they are going to do after high school a key resource is often found within the walls of their high school Guidance Office.
In the students' college planning process, a counselor's role can include:
~Helping students determine their abilities and interests in future educational and occupational choices. ~Making sure they select the right courses and are on track for the kind of post-secondary education and occupation(s) they would like to pursue. ~Giving students information on different schools (entrance requirements, curricula offerings, costs, etc.) and occupations. ~Encouraging college visits and participation in admission interviews.
~Providing students with information about financial aid, such as scholarships, grants and student loans. ~And also assisting with "job shadow" appointments.
So, in other words,
