ST. PATRICK'S DAY SCAVENGER HUNT BEGINS MARCH 10th!
The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library is celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a scavenger hunt for children and their families. Beginning March 10th participants can pick up a copy of the scavenger hunt form to take home and complete.
The contest brings questions relating to everything St. Patrick - from historical facts, to myths surrounding the holiday, to the luck of the Irish in popular culture. Families may use any resources available to them in order to answer each question, and then return their completed answer sheets back to the library. Completed scavenger hunt forms are due by March 17th. Any answer sheet that is completed correctly will be included in the drawing to win.
One lucky child will win a St. Patrick's Day prize basket!
Forms may be picked up during Shaw Library's hours of operation. FMI about the St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt, please call the library at (814) 765-3271.

EGG CONTEST BEGINS MARCH 1st AT SHAW LIBRARY |
As spring approaches, the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library wants to help its patrons rid themselves of the winter blues. Beginning March 1st, the library will sponsor an
"EGG GUESS CONTEST" to anyone who visits the library.
Contestants will have the opportunity to enter the drawing by guessing how many eggs are used to decorate Shaw Library. Various types of eggs will be placed throughout the library in preparation for the Easter season. Interested participants should see a library staff member at the front desk for a contest entry form any time during regular business hours. The form features a space for contestants to guess how many eggs they believe are currently embellishing the library. The participant who guesses the number of eggs used closest to the actual number without going over will win a prize basket.
"This contest is open to both adults and youth," stated Paula Marshall, library director, "We hope to have great participation by all ages."
Anyone wishing to participate in the EGG GUESS CONTEST should visit the library between Monday 3/1/10 and Friday 3/26/10.

LIBRARY DIRECTOR RECEIVES AWARD |
Paula Marshall, Director of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library in Clearfield, is one of a select few Pennsylvania librarians chosen to receive the Laura Bush Foundation 21st Century Librarians Grant. This grant was designed to provide Pennsyvlania public libraries with 25 new Master of Library Science graduates who will work in rural or low-income urban libraries. Through the grant, Ms. Marshall will be given even more opportunities for learning up-to-date strategies in management, technology and problem-solving specific to rural libraries. Lisa Rives-Collens, central Pennsylvania District Librarian, said, "This is a phenomenal opportunity for Paula, but an even better opportunity for the people who use the Clearfield public library. Paula will be able to network with other Laura Bush Grant recipients all over Pennsylvania to improve the services of Clearfield's Shaw Public Library, as well as share her successes with other libraries." Ms. Marshall is expected to complete her MLS degree during the fall 2010. At that time, she will report to the Office of Commonwealth Library on the impact her education had on the community library service in Clearfield and the central Pennsylvania district. She was one of only 25 librarians throughout the entire Commonwealth chosen to receive this honor.
Way to go, Paula! Congratulations!
