MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:
Swine Flu Confirmed In Pennsylvania
On Sunday, May 3, the Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed the first case of swine flu in Montgomery County in the eastern part of the state. As part of the District's response to this announcement, I am recommending you visit the
PA Department of Health website
. This website is updated regularly and is one of the best sources of information I have reviewed to date.
I also wanted to let you know that our school nurses shared information last week with our faculty and staff regarding preventative actions and the symptoms of swine flu. The most important preventatives I have consistently seen are hand washing, cough hygiene, and keeping your children at home when they are sick. Also last week, I directed that our custodial staff be especially diligent in relation to cleaning and environmental hygiene. District nurses and I will continue to monitor news releases and special updates from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. Although there seemed to be cause for guarded optimism about the severity of the virus late yesterday, I again recommend that you visit the above website and that you pay close attention to what you can do to keep your family healthy.
If you have any questions, please contact the nurse's office at your child's school.
