Holocaust Center

Clearfield Area Senior Students had the opportunity to go to The Holocaust Center in Pittsburgh this week. Although the center itself was small, there were some very interesting artifacts, and the speaker was phenomenal! The “Keeping Tabs” memorial was humbling. The Jewish Community Day school collected 6 million tabs (one for each victim) and created this sculpture (in the shape of the Star of David from an aerial viewpoint) shown in the picture behind the students. There are 960 glass boxes, with 2,650 tabs in each one. It was incredible to see just how many six million actually is. The project took 18 years to complete (collecting tabs, planning, designing, constructing). Coincidentally, the number 18 also means “life” in Judaism.
