Spanish Holiday Culture

In Spanish speaking culture, Christmas through New Year's is the longest running holiday season, beginning about December 6-8 through February 2, the Feast of Candles.

Children feed the Caga Tio so he gets fat and brings their gifts on Christmas. The people then burn the log and use the ashes for fertilizer. Next year, we are hoping to collect food usable for the food drive.

In conjunction with the arrival of the Caga Tio and to mimic El Gordo (Spain's Christmas Lottery for orphanages/poor), Spanish Honor Society sponsored prizes to students whose names were pulled from  sELFie submissions. Students in Spanish classes looked for volunteer elves to get a sELFie and report back in Spanish where they were on school property using prepositions of place and two reference points. A completely correct statement earned two chances while a comprehensible one earned one chance.
